Dessert.

You know, I never used to be a dessert fan. I was the person at the party hovering around the chip bowl, bypassing the dessert table altogether while everyone else oohed and aahed at the vast array of sweets available. They just didn’t matter to me. And you know what? That really worked for me. I loved not being attached to dessert. I have my share of vices, trust me on that, but it was very reassuring to know that sweet foods was not one of them.

Until recently.

Now I’ve become one of those people with a Godforsaken sweet-tooth. And, man it’s annoying! I walk by the pantry 400 times a day and think to myself, “I wonder if there are any cookies in there?” Yep. Of course there are. Cookies have become as common in my pantry as Morton salt and those ever-available “mystery” cans. You know, the ones which have lost their label somehow and since you’re afraid to open it they sit in a permanently reserved spot in the back of the cupboard.

So, needless to say I’ve been perusing dessert recipes lately trying to find new inspiration. Like I need that kind of inspiration. I should be perusing ‘1001 ways to cook a rutabaga or ‘Soy you think you can cook’. Get it? Soy.

Alright, moving on.

How do you feel about layering? Are you the type to throw a turtleneck underneath a sweater? How about layered sandwiches like the good ol’ BLT? Well I can tell you, I’m a fan. So naturally I would pick out a dessert this week with luscious layers. I had my first trifle dessert about 10 years ago at a Pampered Chef party and never forgot it. This recipe gets pretty darn close to replicating that delicious experience.

Here goes…

"Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 package brownie mix

  • 1 (3.9 oz) package instant chocolate pudding

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 (8 oz.) container frozen whipped topping (thawed)

  • 1 (12 oz.) container frozen whipped topping (thawed)

  • 2 Skor candy bars

    Instructions

    1. Prepare brownie mix according to package and cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares.

    2. In a large bowl combine pudding mix, water and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth and then gently fold in 8 oz container of thawed frozen whipped topping until there are no streaks remaining.

    3. In a trifle bowl, arrange layers accordingly; place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and half of the 12 oz. container frozen whipped topping. Repeat layers.

    4. Coarsely chop 2 Skor candy bars and sprinkle on top of the finished trifle.

This brownie trifle is to die for. Eat at your own risk of not being able to fit into your fat pants.
